Celtic Sunk By Bedians Wonder Strikes

Two wonder goals sealed Hooley Bridge Celtic’s fate at home to Bedians on Saturday. They went down to a 3-2 defeat against a side who are also in a battle at the bottom of the table, and once again it was frailties at the back that cost Celtic at Heywood Leisure Centre. They were missing first-choice centre backs, which meant striker Ellis Ridsdale had to be pressed into action, while there were call-ups for the enthusiastic Billy Hilton and Mikey Grogan. This left Celtic even smaller than usual and despite captain Marcus Smith battling hard in midfield against a bigger…

Duke Held At Home By Wardleworth

The Duke drew 2-2 with Wardleworth in the cup last week. In awful conditions at Heywood Leisure Centre, there was never any chance of much football being played but both sides stuck to the task well and there were few bad tackles in the mud. Duke’s goals came from Dave Kilcourse and Andy Mullen. Tomorrow they travel to Highfield.

Hooley Thumped As Angry Howard Sees Red

Hooley Bridge Celtic were well beaten by a powerful Whalley Range side at Heywood Leisure Centre on Saturday. The reigning Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur League champions were too physical for Hooley, who were missing some key players – including the inspirational Marcus Smith – as they went down to a 3-0 defeat. Cards were issued with abandon by referee Phil Heaps, and most of them went to the visitors. However, the most notable moment of indiscipline came with the clash between Lee Howard and the visiting keeper. The pair challenged for the ball with Hooley only 2-0 down at this…

Hooley Bridge Celtic Seconds Bounce Back, Stylishly

Hooley Bridge Celtic seconds bounced back to form with a 4-2 defeat of Trafford United at the Heywood Leisure Centre on Saturday. They were well beaten last week by Manchester Valiant, but were better for the extra focus and were too good for their opponents. Goals came from regular keeper John Ogden, presumably shoved up for a bit of bulk, John Harding and Mick and Paul Burke. It was a performance summed up in one word by stalwart Billy Hilton. “Pragmatic.” Ogden was forced into emergency service as a striker as Ste Keogh strained a muscle warming up and therefore…

Hooley Bridge Click In Second-Half South Manchester Massacre

Hooley Bridge Celtic firsts turned things around to thrash visiting South Manchester 3-1 at Heywood Leisure Centre. Performances have been good all season for Celtic, but it is still a young team and sometimes a lack of experience has cost them dear. Not today. Celtic battled hard against a game but struggling South Manchester side but went behind to a penalty just before the interval. Harsh words were said by coaching staff Norman Kenyon and Alec Gill, and the battle was taken to South Manchester. The first goal came courtesy of a cheeky Ellis Ridsdale finish, then Marcus Smith reacted…
