THANKS TO DENNIS BOOTH: Heywood St James look to get their first points of the season when they take on Walshaw Sports at Phoenix Park today.

They lost their first game of the Manchester Football League Premier Division season at home to AVRO last week, but it was a spirited performance from a young side as they lost 3-2.

Jimmies went behind after 10 minutes, Young scoring with a free header from a corner.

Weatherilt equalised 10 minutes later, the Jimmies goal machine on the spot to knock in a rebound.

Then, six minutes into the second half, Aaron Nuttall put Jimmies in front with a strange goal. Weatherilt should have extended Jimmies lead but, clean through, he dragged his shot wide of the post.

AVRO then equalised through Young.

At 2-2 AVRO looked the stronger but Jimmies battled away and again Weatherilt headed wide from Tinker’s brilliant cross.

It proved to be a turning point in the game as the visitors replied with yet another superb finish from the classy Young who fired a low drive past Mcnulty to give AVRO a 3-2 lead which they held at the final whistle.

It was a spirited effort from a young Jimmies side missing many of last season’s experienced senior players.
