Jimmies Back, In The Top Flight And Raring To Go

July 23, 2012

croppedjimmies15BY DENNIS BOOTH: Heywood St James AFC have commenced training in preparation for yet another season in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division.

After finishing 3rd bottom last season, Jimmies were expecting relegation back into the First Division but Premier Division Club West Didsbury and Chorlton have had their application to enter the North West Counties League accepted, which means that Jimmies will stay in the Premier Division.

It is fair to say that Jimmies found it tough last season in a Division that involves many clubs good enough to play football at a higher level and it took Jimmies some time for the penny to drop. With that experience behind them Jimmies can look forward to a much better season with the “big boys”.

Fielding two sides will mean that Jimmies will need around 30 to 40 registered players on their books and will be hoping that the club can attract some new players to pre-season training and to play in pre-season friendlies against clubs that are regularly watched by scouts from Clubs from a higher level.

Craig Dawson, who is in the Team GB Olympic Football Squad started his career with Jimmies. He moved on to Radcliffe Borough then onto Rochdale and then onto West Bromwich Albion.

Jimmies also have a first class coach in Scott Hardy who ensures that training is varied and enjoyable.

It is hoped that Jimmies can continue to attract good players to add to many excellent current players already at the club.

Turn up for training and register and become a welcome member of a top class amateur football club.Heywood Sports Village each Tuesday at 7-00pm.
