Frustration For Hooley As Late Error Costs A Point

A late blunder cost Hooley Bridge Celtic 3rds dearly as they went down 2-1 at Heywood Leisure Centre to Staley Lions.

They looked like they had done enough to secure a point in another hard-fought encounter on the boggy top pitch at Starkey Street.

They came back from 1-0 down thanks to an opportunist strike from Tom Rush, via a Mikey Grogan hoof downfield, and on a gloomy day looked to be on course for at least a point.

But a late error from a thrown in left Grogan exposed and Staley went back to Tameside with the points.

The experienced ‘All Greens’ had looked strong in the tackle all afternoon and threatened to break away on a number of occasions, especially down the flanks, so defeat was especially hard to take.
