Crown made mincemeat of Waggonmakers’ unbeaten record with a superb performance at Heywood Leisure Centre.

Unbeaten in the best part of two seasons, the Bury side were no match for a Crown side who were backed to the hilt by a vocal home support in their Bury Sunday League clash.

Ryan Carden hit his second successive hat-trick and Callum Heap bagged the other as the Heywood side battled to a 4-2 victory.

It looked like it would be easy going for Crown as they strolled into a 3-0 lead thanks to Carden’s first-half hat-trick.

But Waggonmakers battled back to make it 3-1 at the interval and then pulled it back to 3-2 thanks to a great volleyed finish.

The visitors started to lose their self-control in the second period and were lucky to keep 11 men on the pitch.

Carden went off with 20 minutes to go after being on the end of a tough, but fair tackle, and Heap, out on the left, took over his mantle.

He finished well after great work to ease Crown’s nerves, to great applause from the touchline.

Although the goalscorers will take most of the credit, it was a battling performance from the defence and midfield that was key to Crown’s victory.
