Could You Save Plenty On Energy Bills?

January 17, 2013

GasRising energy bills affect everyone but Heywood people could slash up to £250 off their bill by joining Greater Manchester’s collective energy switching scheme.

Heywood residents are being urged to register their interest in the bulk buy scheme which could mean massive reductions to the cost of heating homes.

A similar scheme, run by Rochdale and Oldham councils last November, attracted more than 8,000 residents with many saving hundreds on their annual bills.

Councillor Terry Linden, Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services and Housing, said: “We were delighted with the results of the November auction which showed average savings of over £170 per household.

“Now that we’re joining forces with residents from across Greater Manchester our collective buying power should increase and we should get even bigger savings this time around.

“There really is nothing to lose by registering to take part and I’d encourage as many residents of the borough as possible to get involved.”

Under the scheme, the group enters a ‘reverse auction’ and gets a cheaper deal together on gas and electricity from energy companies.

Residents just need to produce a copy of their current energy bill to register a no-obligation interest before the scheme closes on 28 January.
