Heywood St James stay in the bottom two of the Manchester Football League after a poor display at Phoenix Park against West Didsbury and Chorlton. Missing Mike Wetherilt, Jimmies’ main threat came from Andy Nuttall but the nervous home side couldn’t create enough chances and inevitably went 1-0 down shortly after the break, and were unable to hit back. It leaves them level on points with AFC Bury with two league games left, at home to Springhead on Saturday and then at home to AVRO the week after.

THANKS TO DENNIS BOOTH: Mike Wetherilt went from hero to villain as Heywood St James battled to a valuable point at home to Dukinfield Town in the Manchester Football League. Wetherilt continued his fine form with another two goals in the 2-2 draw, but was sent off after the final whistle of an intense game. Jimmies went in front after four minutes, Weatherilt driving home after Chris Nuttall’s shot rebounded off the keeper. Chris Nuttall hit a quality winner as Heywood St James came from behind to beat Wythenshawe Amateurs at Phoenix Park on Saturday. But it was Mike Wetherilt who was the real hero of the day for Jimmies, scoring once and setting up both the other goals in a 3-2 victory that improves their chances of avoiding relegation from the Premier Division of the Manchester Football League. The TV cameras came to Phoenix Park on Saturday – but the star of the show wasn’t quite who the cameras wanted. MUTV came to watch AFC Monton full-back George Switzer in action against Heywood St James. Switzer was in the same Manchester United youth team as David Beckham et al.
