Nearly a quarter of women in Heywood and Rochdale are risking cervical cancer by ignoring regular cervical screening tests. Health chiefs at NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale are urging women to have cervical screening after more than 1800 women snubbed invitations last year. Women in England and Wales between 25 and 64-years-old are invited to cervical screening (also known as smear tests) every three to five years. Bus travel is becoming increasingly safer for Heywood folk. Statistics released by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) show that incidents of crime and antisocial behaviour on the bus network have dropped by almost 17% over the past three years – with a 10% fall in the past year alone. TfGM, which runs 21 bus stations in the region, has spearheaded the Crime Reduction on Public Transport (CROPT) initiative alongside Greater Manchester Police and bus operators. £1.5m Boost To Heywood’s Ailing Roads

Heywood’s decrepit roads will receive a £1.5m boost over the next two years. The money is being invested by Rochdale Council and the move is being supported by Heywood Township. It will be spent across the town on various projects and will focus on resurfacing and improvements to roads and pavements. Trevor Jones (Egger) Funeral Details Confirmed

Trevor Jones’ funeral will take place tomorrow (Thursday 17 January). A service for the popular ‘Egger’ will be held at St James Church from 12pm, and then will go on to Rochdale Cemetery at 1pm. Egger was a popular member at Heywood CC and Heywood St James, as well as other sporting organisations in the town. One of the good guys.

A man with links to Heywood is wanted for breaching a restraining order and criminal damage. John Grimshaw (born 2/6/89) was seen at an address on Adelaide Street in Heywood on 16 November 2012, an address the order prevented him from visiting. He has not been seen since. Grimshaw has links to Bury and Heywood. Anyone who sees him is advised not to approach him, but call police on 0161 856 8079 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
